However, there's not much of a chance that the third "season" of The Haunting of Hill House will come out next October, due to coronavirus-related delays. Here's what we know about the future of Netflix's Haunting series. While Bly Manor and Hill House both feature ghosts (lots of 'em, in fact), the shows are as concerned with exploring what ghosts represent as creating jump scares.
Here's Everything We Know About A Possible Haunting Season 3
It is loosely based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson. One of those projects includes Midnight Mass, which was a big horror hit in 2021. In fact, it was Midnight Mass that caused a stir on the Haunting social media accounts, not a new Haunting season. First of all, if you haven’t yet seen Midnight Mass, it has vibes very similar to Haunting. There are even several actors from Haunting who landed roles in the limited series, including Kate Siegel and Henry Thomas, who were in both Haunting seasons.
If season 3 happens, it will feature the same cast, more or less.
Mike Flanagan and his producer Trevor Macy are two for two when it comes to Netflix’s “Haunting” anthology series. After delivering one of the streaming giant’s biggest word-of-mouth sensations in 2018 with “The Haunting of Hill House,” the two have struck gold again as the 2020 follow-up “The Haunting of Bly Manor” currently sits atop Netflix’s most-watched chart. A third “Haunting” installment would appear to be a no-brainer for Netflix, but Flanagan confirms to Entertainment Weekly that a Season 3 is not in active development at the moment. The first two seasons of the anthology are based on Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House and Henry James’s The Turn of The Screw, respectively. Those two books are pretty much always at the top of gothic horror and/or romance lists, and there are so many more classics in the genre that future seasons in the anthology could adapt. The Haunting of… has not officially been renewed by Netflix yet, although honestly, that doesn’t seem to matter these days—Netflix has been taking spooky season a bit too literally and ax-murdering its original programming.
The Cast of Netflix's The Haunting of Bly Manor Are Ready for More Seasons
The book also shows up in the Netflix movie Gerald's Game, which Flanagan directed. Looks like Netflix is becoming the new site of the Mike Flanagan horror universe, and we can't wait to be scared.
Cast and characters
However, both The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor debuted in October, though two years apart. That means The Haunting of [fill in the blank] could premiere in October 2022. However, Flanagan's latest comments push this release date back considerably. But after consuming all nine recent episodes (with or without the lights on), many wondered about the status of a third season. Ahead, read Flanagan's latest comments about another installment in the Haunting of… franchise.
The series is about "haunted spaces and haunted people."
On December 23, the anthology's creator squashed rumors of a new installment on Twitter. "At the moment there are no plans for more chapters," Flanagan wrote in response to a fan question. "Never say never, of course, but right now we are focused on a full slate of other @intrepid projects for 2021 and beyond. If things change we will absolutely let everyone know!" Intrepic refers to his production company, Intrepid Pictures. Before Flanagan's tweet, hope for a third season was still alive and well. After all, fans had to wait four months after the premiere of The Haunting of Hill House for season 2 to be confirmed in February 2019. When the series was renewed, Variety reported that Netflix had signed a multi-year deal with show creator Mike Flanagan and executive producer Trevor Macy.

What gothic novel would The Haunting of… season 3 even be based on?
The streaming platform has yet to officially renew the series, but here's everything we know so far of a potential third season. "The Haunting series is very much about haunted spaces and haunted people," said creator Mike Flanagan. Plus, Flanagan’s next project, a retelling of the famous Edgar Allen Poe story The Fall of the House of Usher, is already lined up to follow. The cast of Bly Manor and Hill House don't play favorites between the shows.

"It would have to be with the right piece of IP [intellectual property], it would have to be with the right ghost-centric story, and it would have to really fit with Bly and Hill House." Mike Flanagan, the creator of The Haunting of Bly Manor and The Haunting of Bly Manor, has revealed what would make him return to create a third season. If Netflix does give The Haunting Season 3 the green light, you can probably bet that its episodes will focus on a new creepy mystery and the damaged characters tangled up in it. The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor are both streaming on Netflix, as is Midnight Mass.
The company reversed its decision on shows like GLOW and The Society, which had both been renewed in 2019, and canceled them. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to throw the future of entertainment into whack. As the second season of the anthology series refers to the first, and also features some of the same cast members, it's easy to assume that a third season would continue both traditions. Given this pattern, will there be a third installment in Flanagan's Haunting series? If the cast has any say in the matter, the answer is a resounding yes. Much like Ryan Murphy's horror anthology American Horror Story, the Haunting series features the same actors playing new characters—and "the regulars" are open to returning.
In August 2021, Flanagan tweeted that there are no plans right now to make more Haunting seasons, as he’s moved on to a completely new set of projects. Macy confirmed to Vanity Fair that future seasons would continue to adapt horror novels, calling the first two installments "a literary remix." Based very loosely on the classic novel of the same name, this was a surprise hit for Netflix, who would work with the creator on many other projects too. The Haunting of Hill House skips from the present to the past as it explores the relationships between horribly flawed family members and the chilling events that happened at their haunted home.
If any show is safe to film in this climate, one would think it would be this one. The Haunting of Hill House received critical acclaim, particularly for its acting, directing, and production values. A follow-up series by Flanagan titled The Haunting of Bly Manor, with most of the same crew and some of the same cast but a different story and characters, was released on October 9, 2020.
The most recent installment takes Henry James's The Turn of the Screw and leads us into the world of Dani Clayton (Victoria Pedretti), a governess tasked with caring for the Wingraves—two orphaned children with closely guarded secrets. Flashing between past and present, a fractured family confronts haunting memories of their old home and the terrifying events that drove them from it. Netflix initially renewed The Haunting of Hill House as an anthology series with a repertory cast like American Horror Story, per Variety, and signed a multiyear deal with creators Mike Flanagan and executive producer Trevor Macy. That makes it seem like the streaming service initially intended for the show to last several seasons, but take that with a grain of salt. While the first two seasons of The Haunting of… have proven wildly popular, there season 3 is not certain.
The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor are streaming on Netflix now. Midnight Mass follows a small community on an island who experience seemingly miraculous events, when a charismatic young priest arrives in the village. Flanagan and Macy are currently gearing up for the premiere of their new series, Midnight Mass, which premieres on Netflix on September 24.
And that's also assuming the book isn't currently being adapted by someone far less talented. If you’re a Flanagan fan, you can stream Doctor Sleep on HBO Max or Before I Wake, Hush, and Gerald’s Game on Netflix. You could get really into reading ghost stories—or listening to them on tape like a DIY campfire—and come up with even more ideas than I did for season 3 and beyond.
Based on the novel of the same name by Matt Ruff, the title alone will have the hairs on the back of the necks of horror fans everywhere standing up. For decades, horror fans have been fascinated by the lore of controversial writer HP Lovecraft, and there have been various attempts to bring his work to the screen over the years, with varying degrees of success. As the show’s presence ascended, it would attract many A-list celebrities to take part, but some fans would complain that they forgot to keep it scary and credible. However, there are still some scares to be found in the early seasons before it descends into camp and cliche. Originally the show would air on UK TV on Channel 4, before achieving worldwide recognition when Netflix would step in and take control of the property.
Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor boss gives update on season 3
The first season, Hill House, took its inspiration from Shirley Jackson's novel of the same name from the 1950s, which sees an investigator of the supernatural and three other characters move into a haunted house. But that doesn’t mean the door is shut on a future installment. While there are no current plans for a follow-up to 2018’s The Haunting of Hill House and 2020’s The Haunting of Bly Manor, the topic frequently arises for the team at Intrepid Pictures, whose main heads include Flanagan and CEO Trevor Macy. While Mike Flanagan‘s myriad Netflix series do share certain similarities, each project thus far has proven to have its own unique DNA.

That means the streamer is certainly open to more seasons—or other projects from the duo behind the show. The Terror is a historical period horror series that uses some real events in the backbone of the narrative, which just like Them changes the timeline of the show from season to season. The second run of episodes switches from icy haunted wastelands to America in WWII, using the Pacific Invasion as the backdrop for the show. The premise revolves around Japanese folklore, while the third season sees the action switch to a psychiatric hospital and one man’s battle with demonic forces. Mike Flanagan has hammered the final nail in The Haunting‘s coffin. According to a recent post on his Tumblr, there will be no third season of acclaimed horror anthology series.
Episodes
First came The Haunting of Hill House, Mike Flanagan's radical re-envisioning of Shirley Jackson's book of the same name. The Haunting of Bly Manor, out October 9, works with Henry James' famous works of horror, most notably A Turn of the Screw. Are you disappointed that The Haunting season 3 is not happening on Netflix?
For now, watch out for Flanagan's next horror series on Netflix.
Flora's wedding takes place in a historic hotel in California. Based on the exchange of scary stories in the first episode, the hotel used to be a convent. Perhaps it will be the inspiration for season 3 of the Haunting series. There was a two-year gap between The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, and we might have to wait even longer for future Haunting installments.
Should audiences exhibit demand, then we're confident about season 3. Flanagan is riffing off of classic works of horror literature. There's far more where Shirley Jackson and Henry James came from. Even if it would now probably have to exist outside of any connections to Hill House and Bly Manor, since Flanagan's overall deal with Netflix expired after Usher. I mean, it could be a C-SPAN Original Series, and I would still be downright possessed by anticipation. Despite being entirely separate from the Haunting series, fans will see a number of familiar faces, including Kate Siegel and Henry Thomas, who each starred in both of the Haunting seasons.
If season 3 happens, it will feature the same cast, more or less.

Admittedly the show would often vary in quality, with many saying that the lower-budget early episodes were more convincing than slicker newer episodes, but throughout its staggered run there have been some truly shocking, thrilling, and terrifying stories. It’s hard not to talk about modern anthological horror without mentioning the work of Mike Flanagan, the showrunner behind some of the most terrifying and nuanced horror shows ever made. All advice, including picks and predictions, is based on individual commentators’ opinions and not that of Minute Media or its related brands. Cast and characters
It was actually the first title we explored when Hill House was over, but the rights were spoken for and there did not seem to be a path forward. The TV creator told his followers on social media back in December that he had no plans to create a new instalment in the anthology, but speaking with Entertainment Weekly, he explained what would be needed for a third series to happen. This is a mega-popular series with a relatively small cast. Not to be flippant, but the characters in ghost stories are basically self-quarantined in their haunted houses, right?
If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, call GAMBLER. While he may not be bringing Richard Matheson's rich storytelling to the screen anytime soon, Mike Flanagan is deep into his latest Stephen King adaptation, The Life of Chuck, which co-star Mark Hamill has wrapped filming on. Cross your fingers that we’ll hear good news about The Haunting of… season 3 soon. Flanagan told Vanity Fair, "At its foundation, the Haunting series is very much about haunted spaces and haunted people. The way we make those things dance together is really going to be what's uniform about Hill House and Bly." "There's not a narrative connection, but there are little Easter eggs, for sure, not only in small details but in moments of dialogue and in some of the ideas from Hill House," Flanagan explained. "There are definitely going to be things that will set off that little dopamine rush that those kind of connections create. But it's not a direct connection from a story point of view."
It seems that those hoping for a return for a Haunting Season 3 will just have to keep waiting. Midnight Mass is related to another one of Flanagan's works. In Hush, Flanagan's 2016 movie, a masked killer stalks author Maddie Young (Kate Siegel) in her remote home. Young is the author of a book called—you guessed it—Midnight Mass.
Hill House cast members Annabeth Gish, Robert Longstreet, and Samantha Sloyan also turned up in Midnight Mass, as did Bly Manor actors Rahul Kohli and Alex Essoe. The first installment, The Haunting of Hill House, took its premise from author Shirley Jackson’s book of the same name. It starred Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and Henry Thomas among a relatively well-known cast, with a closed-ended story that seemed to be a limited series type of show. The second installment in what seems to be a growing anthology series, The Haunting of Bly Manor, brought back Pedretti, Jackson-Cohen, and Thomas for a brand-new story, this one loosely based on the famous horror story, The Turn of the Screw. Netflix has "no plans" to drop a third installment in the Haunting of... Last year brought ghost story The Haunting of Bly Manor, and 2018 delivered The Haunting of Hill House in Flanagan's ongoing spooky stories.
Stroke’s bar adds to the allure, offering nine signature craft cocktails, beer on draft, and wine by the glass. This restaurant is a prime example of unique restaurants in Charlotte for dinner. The airy dining room, furnished with wood tables and elegant upholstery, adds to the appeal. The signature dishes, like the pan-fried chicken, are cooked to perfection, following traditional methods. Each meal comes with a choice of three sides, including Jesse’s Mac & Cheese and creamed corn.

Uptown workers always need a good business lunch spot in their pocket (especially if the tab is coming from the boss’s pocket). Fin & Fino, Jon Dressler’s creative seafood palace, has added lunch hours, a sure sign of a returning uptown office culture. The Treatment, the $65 multi-course dinner tasting menu, isn’t available, but you can go with appetizers, salads, sandwiches (including a worthy fried fish on brioche for $15), and entrees like poke bowls. The sleek couches, dim lighting, and high ceilings at Fairweather set a chic, sensual tone for a date night. Half of Fairweather’s menu is a dozen or so classic cocktails, but the other half is the bartender’s innovative twist on those classic drinks.

Essential Restaurants in Charlotte, North Carolina
Supperland is located in a restored, midcentury church in Plaza Midwood, where you’ll find tables in place of pews and a kitchen in place of a pulpit. Kick things off with baked brie bites, hot onion dip, or a seafood tower so tall it might be the closest anything from the ocean has ever been to God. Come for a fancy dinner and appreciate the fact that everything’s cooked over a 14-foot hickory and oak grill.
New-kid-on-the-block Substrate is a neighborhood enoteca that adds stunning vermouths, amari, and natural wine to Optimist Park. While there’s no food menu, there is a whole shelf dedicated specifically to notorious hot girl foods — tinned fish and cured meats — to be perched atop saltines on the house. By day, the inside is lovely, with the sun casting flirty shadows on the oodles of natural wine bottles, but visitors will want to sip their amber and pink-hued drinks outside on the balcony or patio. Because it’s a small house with a front yard (and a parking lot), it really feels like someone’s yard party. By night, it’s moody with generous specials and a backdrop of something funky on aux, vinyl, or even live. The thrifty art on the walls and a sign that pokes a little fun at “natty wine” culture show this place's lighthearted, self-aware personality.
The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar
In a city of tastemakers, chefs, mixologists and brewers work daily to move Charlotte’s gastronomical needle forward. It’s in the dishes and drinks that you’ll find the Queen City's incomparable flavor. In a lot of ways, Charlotte is still a teenager trying to figure out who it’s going to be.
They also have a speakeasy in the basement of a church annex, just know you have to make a reservation if you want to head down there for a nightcap (it’s worth it). If you want to experience Charlotte as the neighborhood city it really is, Letty’s will give you just that. The wine selection is a surprise, and there’s a full bar in case customers want something harder. A restaurant in a hardware store might not be the first thing you’d think of when you wanted to go out to eat, although it certainly is unique. But when the store is Restoration Hardware and the restaurant is as beautiful as RH Rooftop Restaurant with a menu as enticing as theirs is, that puts a different spin on things. You’ll dine in this year-round greenhouse-style space under grand chandeliers amid olive trees and other greenery alongside bubbling fountains.
Gonzales-Mora’s Noche Bruta is a new Camp North End gem, taking over Hex’s sweeping space Thursday through Saturday evenings for a slightly fancier sit-down service. At reasonable prices, the hyper-limited menu still gets to a bit of everything — the flautas drenched in a salsa verde, the ribeye tacos, and a can’t-miss miso caramel churro. The crispy pork katsu sandwich marries Japanese, Hawaiian, and Mexican flavors between pillowy shokupan. When Plaza Midwood brewery Resident Culture expanded to a cavernous space in South End, it found space for chef Hector González-Mora, whose breakfast taqueria had already attracted a following.

The Mr. Crab Dip and Crispy Pita Chips were a plentiful and tasty appetizer. For our entrees we ordered the All About It Seafood Rice, Deluxe Lamp Chops, and the Diced Pineapple Signature Cocktail. I was hesitant because I've never had them before, however I will pretty much try anything once. The All About It Seafood Rice was a winner as well with Jumbo Shrimp Lobster, and Scallops. If in Charlotte put Deluxe Fun Dinning on your list of restaurants to patronize. To date in Charlotte means to eat (and likely, drink) in Charlotte.
The combination of a warm staff, a central communal table, and wood-crate-lined walls redefines a fancy date night. The dishes, shareable “Get Ready” plates, and “Big Ole” mains, showcase historic Southern foodways, like the green garlic collard green grits and staff-favorite lemon butter mussels. Priding itself on being “from the heart” and “for the soul,” Leah & Louise enhances those very two ingredients, heart and soul, essential to a non-stuffy, playful date night. The bread at this tiny order-at-the-window restaurant is so damn good, they named the whole restaurant after it.
The restaurant is part of a larger design gallery, showcasing beautiful furniture and decor. This integration of dining and design makes RH Rooftop Restaurant a must-visit destination. It’s perfect for those seeking a meal in a breathtaking setting. Here, your dining table could be in the heart of a bustling sushi-burger fusion spot, or inside a cozy café filled with the gentle purrs of cats. You might find yourself enjoying gourmet dishes in the soft glow of rooftop lights, or tasting exquisite flavors in a setting that takes you back in time. It worked, and Lang Van is thriving again — and as crowded as ever. The menu at lunch and dinner still has more than 130 items, and Nguyen still uncannily remembers what customers like when they come back. At Biblio, guests are greeted with a 500-bottle wine list upon arrival. Instead, the chef creates dishes curated to match the selected wine.
We also have vegan dumplings such as our kale dumpling and bok choy dumpling, and seasonal [specials] like our asparagus dumpling. This San Gabriel Valley push-cart dim sum restaurant has been around for decades, with its vast picture-filled dim sum menu offered daily from 8am to 3pm, then an expanded menu later in the day. The fried har gow is a pleasing deviation from the traditionally steamed variety, providing a satisfying crunch on the outside before hitting the snappy shrimp filling. Everything else on the menu seems also just a little bit better than the competition. The har gow is just bigger than anywhere else; the char siu bun carries an additional coconut scent.
For a splurge, go for the perfectly roasted, Crispy Skin Suckling Pig. The wait, much like at NBC and Lunasia, can be quite long, and no reservations are accepted. However, the waitstaff seems to understand the gauntlet that is their door policy, and compensates by being generally amicable and expeditious. So many regulars come every week and make my dim sum part of their weekly ritual. There have also been many regulars who moved away but make it a priority to stop by whenever they are visiting. Countless mothers ate my dim sum while pregnant, and I saw these babies grow up.

It’s special how we add black truffle to the shrimp filling, and we also add black truffle to the top of the dumpling. No place in Chicago captures the feel of a dim sum parlor quite like Cai. The ballroom-sized dining room is decked out with chandeliers and covered chairs and fortunately, the cooking lives up to the grandeur. Make sure to try the creamy egg yolk buns, a satisfyingly rich and sweet treat that’s the perfect finish to every meal. Traditionally, these filling and affordable options were wheeled right to your table on carts. Over the pandemic, those carts disappeared, along with dine-in service.
But the traditional shrimp dumpling might be [better] for you if you are a purist. Some would say the shrimp dumpling is how to tell if a dim sum house is good or not. It is my personal favorite dumpling and has also become a favorite for many regulars.
Each piece of dim sum is sold individually, and all patrons have to do is mark a sheet of paper with the quantity of each item that they want and hand it to the cashier at the front. Some highlights include the thousand year egg congee — which typically sells out early in the day — as well as egg tarts, made with a thick cookie crust and generously filled with a silky smooth egg custard. Enjoy wonderful craft cocktails, wine, & beer until 2AM in our bar & lounge.
One rainy winter day when I first joined the Grand Lake Farmers Market, one of my regular customers, Jefferson, brought me a cup of tea because he saw me shivering in the cold. It was a small gesture, but it meant so much to me, and I still remember it over 10 years later. I had the opportunity to interview the owner, Olivia Liu, who shared her story of how the business started. Ever since I was five years old, one of my favorite traditions has been going to the Grand Lake Farmers Market with my dad every Saturday morning.
We had never worked at a farmers market before, so we learned how to adapt and improve along the way. In our 15 years of business, we have learned ways to operate more efficiently and effectively, especially in setting up our booth. We are proud to source most of our produce from the farmers markets we attend. As of October 25, King County will require proof of vaccination for everyone ages 12+ at indoor establishments, restaurants, and bars. Most of my customers are regulars who come every week, rain or shine. We have never seen [any other] dim sum at any farmers market, but it is common in food festivals. When I came with my dad, we’d order fresh gaufres from the Belgian waffle vendor, then browse the ripe nectarines and strawberries that were in season. Sometimes, we’d get rotisserie chicken and potatoes for lunch from one of the food trucks.
Dim sum restaurants on the Eastside are few and far between, making Macky’s Dim Sum an essential choice. The skins are a pale, translucent green, flecked with bits of spinach leaves. It differs from the more common pork and shrimp combination, but these dumplings are nonetheless incredibly juicy and tender. A second location of the acclaimed Pit Room opened in Memorial City this week. We have a commissary kitchen we work out of to prepare all of the dim sum.

The menu here is extremely diverse, carrying nearly every known dim sum dish in America. This is one of the best in dim sum price-to-performance ratios, especially after factoring in the typically short wait. As it turns out, Tru Gourmet is still around, setting up its stand at the Grand Lake Farmers Market — and two other farmers markets around the Bay Area — every week. Other favorites include the donut-like consistency of pumpkin tarts, curry chicken dumplings, and vegan friendly vegetable bao buns. There’s no question that Los Angeles has one of the largest offerings of dim sum in America. But dim sum's reach has grown to encompass neighborhoods within the city's official limits, including serviceable options available in Hollywood and parts of the Westside. Whether you flag down dumplings from a push cart or opt for a more upscale dining experience, here’s your guide to the best dim sum restaurants in L.A.
With a menu of more than 100 items, you’ll do best to stick to the well-executed basics, like crystal shrimp dumplings and pork dumplings. The vibrant pork soup dumplings are hot and juicy in their tins on arrival, while the springy rice noodle rolls nail the ideal filling-to-rice-paper ratio and are some of the best in the city. Highlights beyond the basics include fried whole smelt, steamed black fungus in vinegar, and celery-and-fungus dumplings. There are many restaurants in Chicago that serve dim sum but very few offer the type of experience found at Phoenix. Instead of ordering off a menu, servers push carts of food around the room so guests can pick the items they want while they eat. Focusing on small dishes meant for sharing, these small tea houses were meant to provide nourishment and sustenance for travel-weary guests, usually merchants and traders. An Uptown institution for more than three decades, Furama continues to deliver quality dim sum. Regent Bakery and Cafe originated in 2000 as a quaint, unassuming shop right off the WA-520 in Redmond. With a second location in Capitol Hill, the company's following has only grown. Known more for its delicious pastries, Regent's fried salt and pepper calamari and garlic green beans are as good as you’ll find in the city.

The restaurant is also working on the rollout of a Southern-style menu inclusive of offerings like brisket egg rolls, fried pickles, and chicken tenders.
